Amy Omar is a Turkish-American writer, director and producer based in New York. Amy is particularly interested in narratives around Middle Eastern / Muslim characters and themes of cultural isolation, superstitions, religion, and feminism.
Amy is a recipient of Wavelength Productions' WAVE (Women At the Very Edge) Grant for BIPOC, first time female filmmakers and wrote and directed her first short film, Breaking Fast with a Coca-Cola which premiered at SXSW in 2023.
She has since directed various international short films, The Napkin Collectors (2026), Ayşegül on Tuesdays (Clermont-Ferrand 2025) and Gedu's Gift (part of Ramadan America, SXSW 2024) and the pilot episode for the Film Independent supported scripted T.V. series, The Feather Detective (2024), produced by Talon Entertainment..
Amy’s feature screenplays have been supported by Pustnik (Romania), HerArts Lab (Italy), Pelion Screenwriting Residency (Greece) and Stowe Narrative Labs. Her first feature film, Bee, is set to shoot in Istanbul, Turkey in 2026.
